Instructor and Performer Liam Onaitis started playing guitar in fourth grade. He was self-taught until his Sophomore year at Cottage Grove High School where he joined the Jazz Band. He became the bassist for the Jazz Combo his senior year and found that his skills were much more suited to the instrument's role in an ensemble, which ultimately lead to him playing with the LCC Big Band and Combos for a brief period of time.
Liam fills his time performing as a bassist in ensembles such as Stickerberry Pie and The Root Vegetables; he also plays musical theatre all around Lane County, as well as assisting schools in the area, providing accompaniment and education wherever possible.
I want to teach musical independence, regardless of whether you are playing for yourself or performing for others, music builds community. I believe in a strong theoretical foundation. I will try to weave relevant theoretical information with fun and engaging song learning tailored to each student individually. I also put heavy focus aural memorization in conjunction with traditional note reading, in order to better prepare my students for any situation.
Liam teaches Electric Bass Guitar and Guitar for all ages from beginners up to an intermediate/advanced level. His specialized genres are Funk, Soul, Jazz, R&B, Classic Rock, Blues, Pop, and Musical Theatre Repertoire.
