Summer Camps
This summer we offer two music camp options: Summer SongFest, a series of 5 week-long music exploration camps (take one or take them all!) held June 28-July 30 for youngsters 7-12. Weekly SongFest themes include Paws, Claws, Scales & Tales, Creepy Crawlies, Play With Your Food, Globetrotter, and Planes, Trains & Automobiles. For high school students and mature middle school students, we offer a two-week intensive Musical Theatre Training Academy, providing a wide array of classes and workshops in voice, acting, and dance, from June 28-July 9.
Private Lessons
Private and semi-private lessons run all year round at The Shedd and can be arranged to fit into your schedule and interests. You can sign up for private lessons any time and start right away. Just call the Registrar's office, or drop by the office in person at 868 High Street, and we'll be glad to help you set up lessons for yourself or your child.
Music Classes
Our academic year corresponds roughly to that of Eugene-Springfield's public school calendar: Ten to 12 week courses are offered fall, winter and spring, with vacation camps filling spring and summer break. You sign up for courses on a term by term basis, but some you may join in-progress. Read more...
Road Scholar
We offer several week-long and 3-day Road Scholar "SnapShot" programs throughout the year. The week-long programs occur during our annual Oregon Festival of American Music and include a participatory chorus program.
Music and World Cultures
Music and World Cultures is our assembly-style offering to area schools and home schoolers. We hold a 10:15 am Friday performance for each of The Magical Moombahs and other special performances by select guest artists throughout the year, ranging from jazz, Hawaiian, Bluegrass and more. Each program comes with a curriculum packet for participating classes.

School Philosophy
The Shedd Institute's mission is "...to promote a deeper understanding of and appreciation for America's many rich and vital musical traditions, and to engender in the members of our community a desire to participate actively in the preservation and cultivation of those traditions." The Community Music School's operational vision is that "Live music listening and music-making will become deeply ingrained values and regular activities in the lives of our community members."
You are the music. The Shedd Institute Music School provides private and semi-private music, voice, and dance instruction designed to fit you and your interests. Our primary goal is that our students continue to make music throughout their lives for their own enjoyment, not to put them in Carnegie Hall! At The Shedd, you are the music, and the music is for you!
We believe that it is critical for each student to find the instrument, musical style(s), and instructor that best fit his/her interests, learning styles, schedule, and budget. Often, that "fit" changes with the student's growing experiences, and we provide options for students to make those changes flexibly and without feeling guilty about it.

Programs
The Shedd Institute's Community Music School offers classes and private lessons for all ages in a wide range of musical instruments and styles. The school also offers summer music camps, a school music enrichment assembly program, and special workshops associated with select Shedd concerts.
Financial Aid
We offer need-based financial aid for youth and adult students alike, thanks to the generosity of donors and corporate sponsors, so that cost is not a barrier to learning music. Please submit the appropriate confidential application form for either a class or private lessons to Ginevra Ralph, Director of Education. The form is attached in pdf format or you may request a form be sent to you from the Registrar’s Office.
