The African banjo rapidly became one of the most popular instruments in America. Euro-American players developed an adaptation of African American music they called Minstrelsy that resonated through the landscape of popular song. Its captivating rhythms led to Ragtime, including the 'classic' Ragtime of Scott Joplin and others and laid the rhythmic and harmonic foundations of jazz.
