SHIRLEY ANDRESS received her degree in Music Education from the University of Oregon and teaches voice out of her own private studio. She has appeared with numerous arts groups in Eugene and surrounding areas including LCC, VLT, EFMT, Eugene Concert Choir, Radio Redux, Lakewood Theater and Oregon Cabaret Theater in Ashland. She performs most extensively with The Shedd Institute. She is a founding member, lead vocalist and regular director for the Shedd’s Emerald City Jazz Kings, is the creator of The Shedd’s annual Christmas concert and has been a frequent vocalist and director with the Oregon Festival of American Music since 1996, performing with Dick Hyman, Ken Peplowski and Jesse Cloninger. Now in her 17th season as an artistic director for The Shedd, Shirley is happy to pay tribute to Connee Boswell and her sisters in Hummin’ To Myself. Upcoming Shedd projects as artistic director include the 2022 Jazz Kings Christmas show, and a tribute to Rosemary Clooney which will close out next year’s 2022-23 season. Shirley was honored with the 2016 Eugene Arts and Letters Award and attributes that to the many talented people she has the privilege to collaborate with on a daily basis.
